DENVER (July 8, 2015) ⎯ Arts Brookfield’s free outdoor concert series, Summer on the Plaza, returns on Wednesday, July 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Science Partner performing at the 1801 California plaza. The series is curated by NewSong Music.

The series highlights rising music stars of Denver and beyond, including the lush, three part harmonies of indie rick band Science Partner, the symphonic-folk-meets-mountain sound of Covenhoven, jazz-Americana duo Max Hatt / Edda Glass, and the reverb-dripping guitars and boot-stomping beats of Whiskey Folk, featuring members of The Congress and Robbie Peoples. Concertgoers can enjoy happy hours specials at Guard and Grace, adjacent to the plaza – drink, dine and dig some fantastic tunes, all in one downtown Denver location.

SCHEDULED PERFORMANCE LINEUP

Wednesday, July 8 – Science Partner

Science Partner

Science Partner is a six-piece rock band that showcases lush, three-part harmonies, walls of guitars, a tight rhythm section and unabashedly catchy pop arrangements. Made up of members of some of Denver’s finest and busiest bands, their performances are somewhat rare but highly polished. Science Partner’s lyrical content ranges from the exiguity of humanity to the fleeting fame of a child.

Wednesday, July 15 – Covenhoven

Covenhoven

Colorado musician Joel Van Horne releases music under the moniker Covenhoven, also the name given to the cabin his grandfather built deep in the woods of southern Wyoming between 1955 and 1965. His music has been referred to as “symphonic folk” and “mountain music.”

Wednesday, July 22 – Max Hatt / Edda Glass

Max Hatt / Edda Glass

2014 NewSong Contest grand prize winners Matt Hatt / Edda Glass describe their collaboration as an experiment to determine if complex, sophisticated music is still culturally relevant, with the ability to narrate human situations and resonate without translation and abstraction. The duo identifies their music as Bossa Nova, Brazilian jazz, jazz Americana and vocal jazz.

Wednesday, July 29 – Whiskey Folk (featuring members of the Congress & Robbie Peoples)

Whiskey Folk

Whiskey Folk’s “folk noir” blends ominous, reverb-dripping guitars with boot-stomping train beats and funereal horns to create sonic backdrops for down-on-your-luck ballads and beer-soaked anthems.
