We receive a number of requests from artists for feedback on their original material, as well as guidance on how to navigate the music industry to make the most of their music careers.

We're happy to announce that we're now offering creative and career consultation on your material. These services consist of a one-on-one personal consultation with qualified, experienced music industry personnel who have carefully reviewed your material.

CREATIVE CONSULTATION

Creative consultations include an in-depth analysis of all facets of your original material. This includes lyrics, melody, rhythm and chord structure, as well as vocal and instrumental delivery and if applicable, the production attributes of the recordings you submit.

The creative consultations are led by NewSong's director and co-founder, Gar Ragland. A twenty-year veteran of the music industry, Gar began his career as a student at the University of Virginia, working as a musician in the budding Charlottesville, Virginia music scene in the early 1990’s where he shared bills with the Dave Matthews Band, Gov't Mule and the Aquarium Rescue Unit among others. Ragland later moved to Boston to study composition and improvisation at the New England Conservatory with MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award winning pianist and educator, Ran Blake. It was here that he began working with other artists as a producer and coaching them on their music and career development.

Gar is a Voting Member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), which produces the Grammy Awards.

GUIDED D.I.Y. CAREER CONSULTATION

If you're a musician, you know that it takes a lot more than just great music to get your career up and running. With NewSong's career consultations, we guarantee an honest listen to your music and an experienced assessment of your potential as an artist. Once the value of your product, i.e., your music has been established, we provide you with an insider's approach to the how-tos of the music industry and how you can make this approach your own. Think of it as 'Guided D.I.Y.'

NewSong's career consultations are led by Triple-A (Adult Album Alternative) radio programming veteran and current CEO of Outlandos Music Kate Bradley. Kate served as Music Director of the Loft at XM as well as co-founded Triple-A startup WUIN. She's also served at heritage mainstays WYEP and WNCS and most recently as Content Supervisor for Pump Audio, an independent music-licensing powerhouse owned by Getty Images.

Kate has been nationally recognized for her ardent presentation of music and her ability to champion talented, compelling artists. Simply put, she knows the skinny: the ins and outs when it comes to your music.

Honest, constructive and insightful feedback on each song you submit via an email assessment and a 20 minute telephone discussion.

Feedback includes your songs' strengths and weaknesses, including an analysis of melody, rhythm, chord progression, lyrics, vocal delivery and if applicable, production value.

What's running through the minds of radio programmers or music supervisors while listening to one of your songs? This is an insider's quick review, for individual tracks only. A 15 minute review per song and a summary of recommendations based on the review.

Guided D.I.Y. Consultation A customized independent do-it-yourself campaign, where together we establish and clarify your career goals and expectations, answer your questions, deliver useful advice and opinions, act as a both a filter of and a resource for information (regarding booking, management, music licensing, promotions, publicity, etc.), underline strengths and weaknesses, advise on creating realistic marketing plans (including media kit review), determine relevant targets, and identify the most advantageous media outlets and services (from online distribution to labels) that are compatible with your music.
